Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to dress up at Bible Baptist Church?
Our church family comes from a wide variety of backgrounds. Therefore, some dress up and some attend in jeans and t-shirts. Our approach is that we are much more concerned about the fact that you are here, than what you have chosen to wear. Simply put, wear what you have.

  • What about my kids?
We love families! We offer childcare during all worship services from birth through age 3. During early and late worship services, dischipleship hour and Wednesday evening services, there are classes and small groups available for Pre-K through 12th grades.  An outstanding team of adult leaders will be ready to greet you and guide you to where you need to be.

  • What is a worship service like?
Our services are designed to be powerful and meaningful. You will find a mix of hymns and light contemporary music styles and other creative elements, including relevant messages that will encourage, challenge, and strengthen you in your spiritual journey.

What We Believe

Bible Baptist Church West Union is an Independent Baptist church. We affirm the fact that there are other devoted Christians who exist in other denominations. However as Baptists, there are certain distinct practices of the faith which we hold dear. Many of these are the same practices that distinguish us from other denominations.

  • The Bible is the Word of God
We believe that the Bible was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is literally God-breathed and contains no mixture of error and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man.. The truth of Scripture and the person of Christ are the foundations of the church and the life of the believer (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

  • Salvation is by Grace Alone
We believe that we are saved by God’s grace when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe in the free will of every person to choose Jesus Christ as Savior for themselves.  Man is sinful and does not have the ability to save himself, no matter how many good works he does. However, once we place our faith and trust in Christ, our faith will be evidenced by good works, obedience, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 5:22-23).

  • The Believer is Eternally Secure
We believe that if a person has made a true, heart-changing decision to accept Christ, they can never lose their salvation (John 10:27-28; Romans 8:38-39). When a believer sins, their fellowship with God is interrupted, but never broken (1 John 1:9). However, the Bible is clear that those who do not place their faith and trust in Christ in this lifetime will spend eternity in a Christless hell (Revelation 21:8).

  • Every Believer has Access to God
We believe that every believer, both young and old, has direct access to God through Jesus Christ. This is sometimes referred to as the Priesthood of the Believer. Because of Christ’s work on the cross, the believer has no need for human intermediates, but can talk to God personally, as one of His children (1 John 2:1; Hebrews 4:14-16).

  • Baptism is by Immersion for the Believer
We believe that baptism does not save anyone, but is a believer’s symbolic identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. It is done by immersion as an act of obedience by those who have put their faith and trust in Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:3-5).

What Do I Do Now? Salvation, Baptism, Church Membership, Discipleship

Salvation

God Loves

God created you, knows everything about you, and loves you. He loves you so much that He sent His only Son to this earth for you (John 3:16).

Sin Separates

God loves you but there is a problem – your sin. Your sin separates you from God. Your thoughts, words, and actions keep you from a holy God (Romans 3:23, 6:23).

Jesus Saves

Jesus came from Heaven, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again so that you could have a personal relationship with God. There is nothing you can do to earn God’s love and salvation, it is a free gift (Romans 5:8).

We Receive

God desires to have a personal relationship with you. He has prepared the way for you by sending His Son, Jesus. You can have a personal relationship with Jesus by repenting of your sin, turning from your sinfulness, and placing your hope and trust in Jesus and what He did for you on the cross (Romans 10:9-10).

 Baptism

What is baptism
all about?

Bible Baptist understands baptism to be a believer’s symbolic identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:3-5). It is done by immersion as an act of obedience by those who have put their faith and trust in Christ.
We believe that baptism is an important step in the life of a believer. While baptism is not necessary for salvation, salvation is necessary for baptism and is crucial in the discipleship process of the believer.
If you are interested in baptism, please contact our church at (937) 544-1818.

Membership

There are two essentials we require in order for you to join the Bible
Baptist family..

1. You must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

2. You must be scripturally baptized either at Bible Baptist Church of West Union or transfer your membership from being Baptized in a like-faith church.

Discipleship

Bible Baptist wants to help you grow in your relationship with Christ.

One of the best ways for you to accomplish this is to get involved in the life of the church. In addition, we also offer a variety of classes and courses to assist in your walk with God. Check our calendar and bulletins for times and locations.

Pastor Tim Carter is a native of Adams County, having grown up in Seaman, Ohio. When he was sixteen years old, he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. After graduating North Adams high school, Tim met Sherri Meeker while attending Southern State Community College. Tim began attending church with Sherri at Bible Baptist Church of Hillsboro. During this time, he was baptized and felt the calling of God to do something more with his life. He went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati and married Sherri in the fall of 1990 and after a year, they moved to Mt. Orab, Ohio and began attending Bible Baptist Church, Mt. Orab. It was there that Tim surrendered his life to preach God’s Word. Tim and Sherri began working with the teenagers as the youth directors and served in this position for three years on a part-time basis and another year full-time. He received extensive practical and spiritual ministry training while on staff there, and eventually felt the calling of God to start a church in Adams County; specifically, West Union. In May of 1998, Bible Baptist Church of West Union was born. Tim and Sherri are the parents of two daughters, Ashley (1991) and Emily (1994). As of April 2, 2011 and May 17, 2014 they have added Josh Brock and Steelley Peters, their son-in-laws to their family.

Josh Brock grew up in Cincinnati and was saved at the age of 7 at a small Baptist church in the city.  He moved to Adams County as a young teenager and shortly after, he began attending Bible Baptist Church of West Union. Josh graduated from North Adams High School in 2010, and married his highschool sweetheart, Ashley, in April of 2011. While attending Camp Chautauqua as a counselor with the church in June of 2013, he began to hear the calling of God on his life, to full-time ministry. While going through the police academy in 2013-14, he fully surrendered to God’s call.  He came on staff at Bible Baptist Church as an assisant to the pastor in April of 2014. Josh leads our in-school Bible studies and he and his wife assist with our teenage ministry.  He is currently training under the pastor.

Assistant

He was saved at the age of 10 at Winchester Baptist Church.  He began attending and soon joined Bible Baptist Church of West Union with his family, as a young teenager.  Josiah graduated from home schooling in 2009.  In August of 2013, Josiah married his sweetheart, Lena. In the spring of 2014, at a men’s conference with the church, Josiah began to really feel God’s calling on his life and surrendered to full-time ministry.  Josiah came on staff in August of 2014 as a part-time assistant to the pastor.  He is working with our children’s ministries and is training under the pastor.  Josiah and Lena are expecting their first child (a boy) in early January.
